This is my last month to work full time!
This is Noah's last week in public school!
After much pondering, reading, and discussing, Andy & I have concluded that it would be in Noah's best interest to pull him out of the public school system and give him our focused attention for at least one school semester. He has been struggling in school. Both his kindergarten teacher and his 1st grade teacher have expressed their concerns, but no one has come up with any real solutions to help Noah get the leg-up that he needs. Noah seems to be growing very aware that his classmates are "more advanced" than he is. It breaks my heart to see him make an effort to do his take-home worksheets, get frustrated, and drop his head in his hands saying, "I'm dumb!" I don't think he is getting enough caring attention or praise at school. I think he will benefit from one-on-one instruction that meets him at his current academic level, is paced as quickly or slowly as he needs, and comes from a person who makes him feel safe and cared for.
Home schooling is something we have done in the past. It served Erik well for pre-K and kindergarten, and he and I both enjoyed the experience. Hopefully it will be just what Noah needs at this formative stage of his life. I ordered our curriculum today. And so this new journey begins...
